ENG 782 Origin and Development of the English Language

Summer II, 2009

Announcements

July 4
To get started in the course, please read over the course description. First, sign up for a GoogleDocs account. (If you already have a GMail account, you have a GoogleDocs account with it--go ahead and use that.) If you don't have a GMail account or other Google account you must create one. If you want to create a GoogleDocs account using your own email address, here is a brief video that shows you how.

Next, using the email account you intend to use for the course, subscribe to the course listserv (click on "Join eng323" and fill out the registration form) and send a message to it which includes a paragraph-long introduction of yourself, your GoogleDocs ID (this is crucial!), your AIM screen name, and (optionally) any other contact methods you want to share with the class (Facebook, Twitter, etc.). (Note: the name of the listserv is "eng323"--don't let that worry you. It's the name of the undergraduate version of this course, and I was unable to get a new list set up specifically for ENG782. Doesn't matter....)

If you want to friend me on Facebook, you may do that (search for Rick Branscomb), but it is not required. To contact me, look for me on IM (ebranscomb—put me in your Buddy List) or email me at ebranscomb@mac.com or ebranscomb@gmail.com.

There will be a chat Monday evening, July 6, from 8:30 to 9:00. This is not mandatory, but I will be available to discuss the course and answer questions, and you will be able to meet some of your classmates. It will be held in the Blackboard chat room.

July 5
I am still waiting for the college listpeople to create my listserv for the course. If it's not ready by tonight, I'll move to a plan b. For now, disregrad the references to the "listserv."
"Joining the Wiki" the wiki you need to join is the Student ODEL Wiki, not the ENG782 one. Go to http://odel.wikispaces.com and click on "Join this wiki."

July 13
The next chat in Blackboard will be Wednesday July 15, 8:30 - 9,
